The Gerry Rempel Jazz Syndicate with Ballet Fantastique “Pride and Prejudice”at the Hult

Friday, October 14, 2016 @ 8:00 PM - Sunday, October 16, 2016 @ 2:00 PM

The Gerry Rempel Jazz Syndicate will once again be providing the music for Ballet Fantastique’s “pride and Prejudice” Ballet production at the Hult Center.    The group played in this production back in 2014 and received great reviews.

From the Register Guard:  “The Gerry Rempel Jazz Syndicate was a perfect choice f or this fusion of old and new. In f act, the live jazz contributed greatly to the evening’s success.
Rempel wrote two original pieces for “Pride and Prejudice: A Parisian Jazz Ballet.” His “Les Etoiles” served as
the overture to both acts and reflected the Gypsy Jazz nuances of the era. “Le Moulin Bleu”, which was
somewhat risqué, plunged us into the Paris Cabaret scene in Act Two.
“Kitchen Sink Boogie” by pianist Gus Russell was the vehicle f or energetic choreography in Act One.  Additional
arrangements of music by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday and Sidney Bechet gave a flavorf ul blend
to the 1920s scene. Fabulous musicians included John Polese on trumpet and accordion, Bruce Cole on drums,
Byron Case on bass, Scott Mitchel playing a mean alto sax, and Merlin Showalter on congas. Susanna Meyer’s
perf ect French vocals f elt real. Amy Hackenschmidt’s soulf ul voice was perf ect.”
